Asked: 2018-05-03 07:10:40

I took a home pregnancy test, and I’m quite surprised by the result. Are the home ones really accurate?

They are pretty accurate, if you’ve followed them correctly. You could take another to be sure, but they are pretty reliable.

Some medications can affect the result, so it may not be the accuracy of the test (they are normally pretty good) but something else in your body? Some allergy meds or sleeping tablets can affect the result.

They say about 99% - so there’s an exception that proves the rule. Wait a week and take another one, and then you’ll have a clearer picture.

If you follow the instructions properly, then a home pregnancy test is quite accurate. If you get a positive result, it’s likely correct as it’s about the level of hormones in your urine, but if it’s negative and you thought it was positive, maybe contact a doctor to confirm.
